Cape Town is experiencing the worst drought in over 100 years. Day Zero is soon approaching and the taps will be turned off. Capetonians will have to queue for water, but what about the rescue organisations and individual rescue angels. How will they be able to provide water for all the thirsty furbabies?

Our Mission is to establish water drop-off and collection points throughout the South African provinces. People, companies and organisations can drop off containers, filled with water, at these locations. We will then arrange transportation to these drought stricken areas in order to help out the animals in need.

You can help in a number of ways. Firstly, donating water and containers will help us the most. Alternatively, you can assist us in spreading the word about our mission and help us reach people who may be able to assist with donations. Another way would be, if you’re planing to come down to the Cape province, is to arrange to collect some of the water, stored at your nearest collection point, and help transport some of the containers down to us. You could also volunteer to assist with distributing or help at your nearest collection point.  Whatever you’re able to assist with, is all we ask.

You could also help us with transport and shipping costs, to get the water where it’s needed, by donating to our cause and clicking the “Donate” button below:

Please be aware that PayPal does not support the South African Rand (ZAR/R) as a payment currency and payments are made in United States Dollars (USD/$), but is converted to ZAR afterwards. If you would like to donate R50, please input $4 and not $50. If you would like to donate R100, please input $8 and not $100.

The easiest and quickest way for you to contact us, is through our “WATER for PAWS” Facebook Page or via E-mail at [email protected]

Please contact us, should you be willing to assist us with a collection point

What started out as an idea, then late on Friday, the 19th of January 2018, became a Facebook page.

Never ever did I expect the response from not only Capetonians but people from as far as KZN, Bloemfontein, Eastern Cape and Gauteng. ALL IN JUST A FEW DAYS!!

Within hours of the page being active Yvonne, Karen, Dale, Max and a few others offered to become drop off points.

There are so many people that I cannot mention you all… THANK YOU really does not say enough for how grateful I am to all of you.

To be honest, I am still trying to “take this all in”

All I wanted to do was be a Capetonian trying to do my part in the current water crisis that we see ourselves in.

With DAY ZERO approaching with the taps to be turned off I wondered what would happen to the Animal Rescue Centres and the individual Animal Rescue Angels… how would all the furbabies survive without water….

I could not sit back and hope that “someone else would do something”.

I HAD to do something…
I HAD to make a difference,,,

And so the initiative of WATER for PAWS was “born”

It does not matter how small or big your contribution is in this time of our water crisis, it’s a matter of making a difference.

No matter what your choice of action is, no matter what cause/organisation you choose to support .. whether it is to help people carry their allocated 25 litres from the collection point to their car, to support an old age home and donating water, or even doing your part in saving water and keeping to the 50 litres a day WE CAN ALL MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Water for Paws has been asked how the water donated will be distributed … this is a very difficult question to answer as soon all Animal Orgs will be in need of water.

This got us thinking… it seems sensible to give to the Animal Orgs who run out of water first. The idea would be to do our best to share the water donations equally amount those orgs in need. It would really depend on how much water has been donated and as you know the Water for Paws initiative was only started a few days ago so it is really important that, with the help of all of you AWESOME ANIMAL ANGEL WATER WARRIORS that we start stocking up on water so that when DAY ZERO arrives and even, in some instances, there are orgs that have already run out, we can respond immediately

The other alternative is that YOU can elect the Animal Rescue Org of your choice for your water to be delivered to and WFP will deliver your donation on your behalf in the event that you are unable to deliver directly to the animal org of your choice. WFP will post photos of the delivery to that particular rescue org and acknowledge your donation on the WFP Facebook Page
Water for Paws cannot do this alone, we NEED YOU to give generously for this initiative to grow.

We cannot wait for DAY ZERO, we need to start planning ahead to make sure that when the taps are turned off that WFP and with your generous donations, are able to assist immediately.

WATER for PAWS has been asked if Animal Rescue Orgs and Independent Animal Rescuers can post on this page.

The answer is YES

The aim of this page is to Use WATER for PAWS as a central social media tool to connect Animal Rescue Orgs and individuals who can donate water so that immediate assistance can be given where possible.

When posting your appeal please may we ask that you provide the following details to enable the followers of the page and WFP to make contact.

1. The name of the Animal Rescue Org
2. Contact details (cell number) and name
3. Physical address
4. If possible please pin directions to the post

Where possible we are appealing for containers as there have been generous offers of borehole and well point water. There may be instances where the Animal Orgs may have to provide containers.
Whilst WATER for PAWS loves all furbabies we ask that you keep the Facebook Page specifically for appeals for water and appeals for the public to donate water.
